AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

For those of you in need of before or after school child care, the following options are available at or around Clover:

STAR Child Care Program – Clover Avenue Elementary
The STAR Child Care Program is open to all students K-5. It is after school program operated by STAR. It is fee based child care. If you are interested, please contact Katherine at 310.678.6030.

Beyond the Bell/Youth Services at Clover Avenue Playground
The playground is open to all students in grades 2-5.  However, activities and supervision are geared more toward children in upper grade levels.  The playground is open from the end of the school day to 6:00p.m. Monday through Friday.  Students are provided with an opportunity to do homework, although they must work on their own.  There is lots of free play time, including sports, recreation, games and snacks.  Organized games and activities vary during each week and include team sports. During the winter months after dark, students are brought into the school auditorium, where they can play games or watch videos.  If your child is going to be on the playground, you will need to complete an emergency card and return it to the playground supervisor. The program is free (no cost) to all students.

STAR Enrichment
The STAR Program is an after school enrichment program, in which professional teachers come to Clover and teach a variety of classes such as dance, gymnastics, science, drama, etc. Each class has a fee.  This program has been at Clover for several years.

ALTERNATE CHILD CARE FACILITIES

The following programs are not held at Clover Avenue Elementary School, but buses come to Clover after school and transport children in the programs to the center where the programs are held.  Both programs offer high quality childcare and extended care programs.

The best kept secret in Westside Village, Palms Recreation Center, is located at 2950 Overland Avenue at the corner of Overland and National, and is operated by the L.A. Children also receive help with their homework, and homework time is a scheduled activity for each group at specific times.  Other activities include supervised games, recreation, sports, arts and crafts and snacks.  During winter and spring breaks, the recreation center plans lots of activities to keep children occupied, including field trips and theme parties involving the entire child care center.  In addition to the after school care program, Palms Recreation Center offers a variety of afternoon classes throughout the week such as dance, drama, karate, woodworking, soccer and basketball clinics, gymnastics, cooking, ceramics and much more. Fees for these classes are nominal. Monthly fees include winter and spring break and pupil free days. The program is open from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.  Contact Palms Recreation Center regarding transportation.  Also, there is a one-time registration fee. Call Palms Recreation Center for more details.
